Ask anybody from Tainan what they like doing on weekends and the majority of the answers you’ll receive will probably have to do with their hot springs. Hot springs in Tainan are one of the most popular hot springs in the whole of the country. Tainan is a city South of Taiwan known for many things, and one of those is the Guanzihling Hot Springs.

Guanzihling Hot Springs in Tainan

The Guanzihling Hot Springs is found at a foothill in Baihe District in Tainan. Just like the three other major hot springs in the country such as the hot springs in Beitou, in Yangminshan and in Sihchongsi, the Guanzihling receives a lot of visitors each year.

And the Guanzihling, unlike the other most popular hot springs in Taiwan, attracts a lot of people not just because of its health benefits. The popularity of this hot spring can be traced back to its muddy hot springs, a cure for most skin allergies. Add the fact that the spring is said to be one of only three hot springs of its kind in the world (the others are the Kagoshima Hot Spring in Japan and the Sicilian Hot Spring in Italy), it’s not surprising that the Guanzihling makes it to the very top of must-do and must-visit in the country.

The Guanzihling is divided into two parts: the “old” hot spring area and the “summit” hot spring area. The old hot spring area has resorts that are “old” and a little bit on the cheap side, while the summit, which is found at top has newer, more expensive ones. The hot spring in both has a temperature of 76 degrees, which may vary sometimes depending on the water from the spring water and water from the meteoric surface. It is mainly made up of alkaline carbonate and sulfuric acid, which makes the water dark and smooth, thus the popular “muddy hot spring”.

Indeed, this muddy hot spring has therapeutic properties. Aside from its main use as a skin allergy cure and beauty treatment, it can also be used to treat gastrointestinal disorders. With more than a hundred kinds of minerals, the hot spring from Guanzihling provides a perfect medicinal as well as recreational environment for its visitors.

But the lure of the Guanzihling hot springs doesn’t stop there. Hot springs aficionados will be quick to tell you that the scenic surroundings of hot springs are “attractions” in itself, and soaking in hot spring waters amidst beautiful sceneries makes the experience truly therapeutic.

In Guanzihling, you’ll find several historical destinations. There’s the Dasian Temple, the Biyun Temple, Lingding Park, Hongye Park, Haohanpo Hiking Trails and many others.

Most of these sites are included in hot spring tours so if you’re interested in touring Guanzihling surroundings before or after getting a “hot spring fix”, it is also very possible.

So, when you’re ready to experience hot springs in Tainan, think of Guanzihling, and discover for yourself why the surroundings are a must-visit and the experience a must-do in the city of Tainan.
