Patterned after a similar attraction found in Singapore, the Chiang Mai Night Safari is an expansive park that is part of the Thailand government’s huge multi-million baht effort to increase the city’s tourist count. The concept of the park is to provide its visitors with a thrilling experience of being out and in the wilderness at nightfall. Apart from the three main animal zones of the park such as the Savanna Safari, the Predator Prowl and the Jaguar Trail, other activities can keep visitors entertained such as the feeding of wild animals, the petting of tiger cubs, the laser light show and the spectacular dancing fountain. The Savanna Safari and the Predator Prowl animal zone can be accessed via an open-sided safari tram while the Jaguar trail can be explored by foot at your own pace. All animal zones surrounded the main lake of the safari.
The Savanna Safari opens at 6 in the evening and operates until 10 in the evening where visitors get to journey through a replica of the wild African savannahs. This 2.4 kilometer-long trail located south of the main lake is inhabited by giraffes, antelopes, zebra, lamas, elephants, rhinoceros and different species of African wild deer. This herbivore and prey animal tour lasts about 30 minutes aboard an open-sided tram.
With operating hours similar to the first animal zone, visitors will be faced with the kings and queens of the jungle at the Predator Prowl. Also extending 2.4 kilometers-long located east of the lake, find yourself encountered by the fiercest predators around, including Bengal tigers, lions, pumas, hyena, bears, vultures, and also some rare prey animals including the goats, wallabies, wild boards and deer. The tram ride also takes around 30 minutes to finish.
The Jaguar Trail entices visitors to a nice stroll around the lake where a range of wild habitats of the flamingos, ducks, tortoises, tigers and jaguars can be seen. The trail opens at 11 in the morning and closes at 11 in the evening.
Aside from the three exciting animal zones, get to feed the animals yourself or take adorable photographs with cub tigers. Kids will definitely get a kick out of the dancing fountain at the Fun Plaza where a 13.5 meter wide circular fountain shoots water up at an addictive rhythm. Jump, hop or dance along with the fountain as you challenge your companions on who will not end up looking like a fish out of water at the end of your run through the fountain. Also, stay put for the laser light show, which is deemed one of the most memorable shows at the night safari. See the musical fountain and water screen come to life with stunning light and sound effects that are perfectly in rhythm with the soundtrack. The laser light shows have two show schedules every night, one at 8:00 pm and another at 9:00pm.
