Jounieh is an international hub, a resort-city and one of the giddiest towns in Lebanon. The rich and famous of Europe and the Middle East have been frequenting here to play, party and relax. Tourists who are planning to visit shouldn’t worry about what to wear in Jounieh since the city has been host to millions of travelers from different parts of the world. Come as you are and enjoy what the city has to offer.
In summer, the weather is perfect for a dip in the Mediterranean Sea. There are pleasant beaches along the coast going to Maameltein. You can choose to stay in any of the hotels stretched along the bay; each one facing the sea where you can kick up your heels and wait for the golden sunset for which the Bay of Jounieh is known for. You can try Holiday Suites Hotel and Beach Resort, Princessa Hotel or Hollywood Inn Hotel, among many others.
What’s really cool about swimming in Jounieh beaches is that behind you is a magnificent view of the city’s tall buildings, the pine-crested hills and snow-capped mountains. The sight truly is a treat. And when you’re frolicking in the beach, you forget about the wars and political troubles that have long marred the reputation of Lebanon. All you would care about are the warm sun, balmy sea breeze and beautiful Lebanese people.
Lebanon may be a conservative country in general but women wear sexy bikinis in Jounieh beaches; no problem. Lebanese women are very stylish and would wear the newest styles of bikini when going for a swim.
Meanwhile, springtime brings out the best in the city. The weather is nice and balmy, and you could enjoy driving or walking around the city in your most comfortable clothes. Women in Jounieh wear jeans, shorts, short skirts, tank tops, flip-flops or anything that makes moving around comfortable. The men can be as loose and comfortable as well.
Apart from the beaches, hills and mountains, the real stars in Jounieh are the casino, restaurants, pubs and night clubs. The finest casino in the Middle East, Casino du Liban, is found in the city perched on a hill overlooking the magnificent bay. Before the civil war, the casino attracted high rollers from Europe and all over the Middle East, and they came dressed in formal black-tie attire. When it re-opened in 1996, it easily regained its status as one of the top entertainment centers in the Mediterranean but its more modern guests are much less formal.
Other than the famed casino, Jounieh is teeming with pubs, night clubs and entertainment centers for an all-night fun and party with friends. Dress up as you would when visiting the liveliest night club back home. Dress elegantly, though, if you are dining at fine restaurants. The Lebanese people are very elegant and appropriately dressed.
Generally speaking, when visiting Lebanon and trying to figure out what to wear in Jounieh, be smart casual. In summer, wear light cotton clothes, a hat and sunglasses. In winter, wear something to keep you warm. Be elegant but not too James Bond-ish and be casual but not inappropriate or disrespectful.
