The country of Fiji is an archipelago consisting of more than 300 islands that are grouped into nine island groups. Lomaiviti Islands is the central group of islands between Viti Levu (the largest and most important island) and Lau group of islands. Mainly composed of nine volcanic islands, the biggest islands in Lomaiviti are Ovalau, Koro and Gau, and the most notable is the Wakaya island-resort, which is so beautiful only the rich and famous can afford to vacation here. A tiny lizard-shaped island called Namenalala is very near the Vanau Levu Group but it is still an island in Lomaiviti.
Lomaiviti deserves to be recognized as a leading summer paradise destination in Fiji for three reasons: its dive sites, the colonial town of Ovalau, and the Naigani Island Resort, among equally stunning resorts.
First, the Lomaiviti waters have not been intensively dived, and that adds to its appeal for the few that have discovered them. Lomaiviti’s reefs are spread over a wide area of the Pacific Ocean. Most of the few dive operators in the area offer liveaboard diving to the far-away island of Nai’a. Its remoteness makes its reef very intriguing. Other amazing dive sites here are in the tiny islands of Ovalau and Wakaya.
The second top tourist draw is the island of Ovalau, specifically for the colonial town of Levuka. Tourists are awed by the row of old colonial buildings and intriguing historical sites. Travelers may check in at the Royal Hotel, Mavida Lodge, or Levuka Homestay. The most famous resorts here are the Royal Davui Island Resort, Toberua Island Resort and the exclusive Wakaya Island Resort.
And finally, the most popular spot in Lomaiviti is clearly the Naigani Island Resort, also located in Ovalau. Tourists specifically enjoy the peace and tranquility that this resort offers. It is quite rare to find a non-exclusive beach as beautiful and yet with very little people. It is a perfect little paradise for diving, snorkeling, swimming and simply beach bumming. The beach is unspoiled and uncongested. It is simply one of the best kept secrets in Fiji. Even the food and accommodation are topnotch. Other activities in Naigani are kayaking, fishing and boating.
There is actually no best beach in Fiji for real. This is because all the beach resorts and island resorts are unique and amazing in their own rights. Each one offers something so unique that one easily forgets the last amazing beach he or she has just been to. In other words, tourists must see Fiji more than once in their lifetime to see a majority of its beaches. Lomaiviti is just one of the many Fijian island groups and already it has a number of world-class resorts, beaches and dive sites. One is yet to see Mamanuca Islands and Yasawa Islands, not to mention Viti Levu.
Getting to Lomaiviti Islands is no problem, as is the case for getting to any part of the country. From the capital city of Suva or the Nadi International Airport, there are transfers and services that allow tourists to easily book a ferry ride or tiny airplanes to their final points of destination.
