This beach can be called Eurwangni, Eulwangri or Ulwangli Beach, but under any of these monikers, the beach remains one of the more popular beaches of Incheon. Located on the southwest side of Youngyu Island, the soft wide sand is what makes this beach particularly popular with locals and travelers. In addition, the average depth of the shore lies at 1.5 meters, making it the ideal height for a nice and relaxing swim.
Much due to its strategic location, the Ulwangli Beach is also famous for its unobstructed views of the sunset. The sands of the beachfront form a nice crescent shape that extends to 700 meters long, making viewing the sunset all the more spectacular regardless of where you are viewing it from along the shore. Its natural scenery gets even more spectacular with an abundant pine forest and fantastic rock and stone formations along the shores of the beach.
Although many people despise swimming during low tide, the Ulwangli Beach has a width of 200 meters during low tide allowing visitors to reach further to the sea which is especially an unusual experience. Aside from swimming along the sandy shores, there are plenty of beach activities visitors can enjoy. Some of the favorites include four-wheeled motorcycling, jet skiing and riding banana boats and power boats. Sand motorcycles are available for rent on the stalls along the shore with plenty of fishing gear stalls as well. Visitors can then opt to go fishing and find themselves coming home with a ton of the day’s catch.
But if water sports are not your thing, you can opt to go bird watching along the shores of the beach. Ulwangli is home to a great range of bird species that are mostly water birds so make sure to have your binoculars on hand. However, if you’d rather sit, lounge and just enjoy the heat of the sun on your skin, don’t let any of these activities stop you from having your moment with nature.
Similar to the number of names associated with Ulwangli, the numbers of accommodations available along the beach shore are plenty as well. Hotel Zeumes, Hotel June and Hotel Herb Herb are just some hotel accommodations that stand-out in the area so you may want to check these out when wanting to extend your stay in the island.
Getting to the Ulwangli Beach can get a bit tricky due to its rather far location, but it always worth the trip. Visitors should take a ferry to the Yeongjong Island from the Incheon port harbor.
Most of the time, ferries to Yeongjong will pass by other nearby islands of Incheon before finally docking at Yeongjong so it may take a while. If you’re lucky, though, you might find a ride that goes directly to Yeongjong. When you get to the Yoengjong dock, look for a bus that would take you to Ulwangli Beach on the Yongyu Island.
Because of its distance to the city center of Incheon, many visitors opt to stay overnight to catch a little more of the sun and sand this famous beach brings. Framed by a thick forest, wonderful rocks, sandy beaches and plenty of water activities, the Ulwangli Beach of Incheon is indeed one aspect of the city that can surely delight beach lovers.
