With the emergence of familiar restaurant establishments around Tagaytay City, some people still love sticking to the good old ones that remain exclusive to the cool city’s charm. Bag of Beans is definitely one of them. BOB, as some people call it, is a good place for that hearty Tagaytay lunch and sweet-tasting desserts.

Many customers go to BOB for their nice, cozy and homey-type ambiance. Its quaint and rustic façade already indicates a relaxing ambiance from afar. Its main dining place is somewhat similar to the famed Sonya’s Secret Garden also in Tagaytay but rather a smaller version of it. Its garden is filled with plants and ornamentals with a friendly talking bird that greets customers with a simple “Hello”. Eating al fresco beneath their huge umbrellas or having coffee underneath their garden huts is one of the alluring experiences of the coffee shop but make sure to bring insect repellant as mosquitoes can be plentiful when dining in the gardens.

BOB initially wanted to push their English Pies but the restaurant proved to be more than just another pie place. Some people flock to this small Tagaytay coffee shop for a cup of one of the most expensive coffees in the world – Coffee Alamid. This Philippine civet coffee only comes from the sweetest coffee beans from the country’s forests. Depending on how you look at it, this gourmet coffee can either be stomach-turning or a really rare treat. We dare you to find out and taste what makes this kind of coffee so rare.

For those who prefer a sweet drink rather than coffee, BOB serves smooth Hot Chocó and Hot Tea for the chilly Tagaytay nights and delicious cold milkshakes and frozen chocolate for the occasional hot summer days. The coffee shop is also famed for their all-day breakfast meals and their yummy pancakes to start the morning right.

Aside from the BOB’s own Barako blended coffee and freshly baked wheat bread enticing customers’ appetites, Bag of Beans has a great selection of scrumptious and homey dishes to choose from. Norwegian Salmon Steak, Grilled Blue Marlin, Porter House Steak, Chicken ala Kiev, Roast Beef with Mashed Potatoes, Chicken Parmigiana, Shepherd’s Pie and Steak Mushroom Pie are just some of BOB’s dishes that rely on the quality of food rather than their plating and presentation. That alone offers a rather comforting impression of the place. Its list of sweet treats does not disappoint as well. Choose from Blueberry Cheesecake, Apple Pie, Cinnamon Rolls and its famous Banana Loaf to get your sweet fix.

Bag of Beans is conveniently located near the Mendez intersection so it’s hard to miss. It can be seen near the vendors selling the addictive steamed peanuts along Tagaytay’s Aguinaldo Highway.

With its great tasting coffee and freshly baked bread baskets, there is no reason to visit overrated coffee shops found all over Tagaytay. The next time you’re in the cool city, opt for a homier and authentic Tagaytay experience only found at Bag of Beans.
