There are so many tourist attractions that entice and draw people, visitors and travelers from all over the world to come to the United Arab Emirates. Of the wonderful sights and sounds there are, one of the most popular would be the King’s Fountain in Dubai.
The Dubai fountain is a choreographed water show, constructed in the Burj Kalifa Lake which is an approximate 30-acre long man-made body of water. Every day, the show entertains its viewers with superb performances, mixing amazing lighting techniques, creative water works and enthralling music. The lights from the fountain’s colorful displays and presentations can be seen from a distance of over 20 miles, and is one of the biggest attractions in the entire region.
The fountain was designed by WET design (Water Entertainment Technologies), a creative water feature designer group based in California, USA. They are the same people who created the famous fountains over at the Bellagio Hotel Lake in California. The Dubai fountain is an impressive 902-feet long structure consisting of five circles, each of a different size, and connected by two arcs at the center. It is made up of more than six thousand six hundred Superlights. These are incandescent bulbs used for fountain lights, and are considered as the most advanced lights in the business. There are also 25 color projectors set up across the structure, creating a visual myriad of over a thousand color combinations and abstract mixtures that people from all over the world flock to see.
The mechanism of the fountain is made up of high-pressure water pumps, jets and shooters. For the dancing effect, the water fountain design team utilized advanced water robots called oarsmen. It has then become the largest dancing fountain in the world today, giving out more than a million and a half lumens of light projections. The water sprays up to 500 feet in height, which is around twenty-two thousand gallons of liquid in the air.
The musical repertoire of the fountain consists of classical music, popular dance tunes, award winning songs, popular love songs, Hindi, Emirati and Arab songs, ‘Time to say goodbye’ by Andrea Bocelli, and of course, the national anthem of the United Arab Emirates, ‘Ishy Bilady’.
The fountain was formally inaugurated on the 8th of May, in the year 2009, where the opening ceremonies were held at the nearby Dubai Mall. The shows and performances can be seen from all sides of the lake, as well as from the surrounding establishments. Several videos both official and amateur are already wide-spread over the Internet, showcasing the unique and awe-inspiring performances of the fountain.
The shows are scheduled daily, in the afternoon and in the evening. The afternoon shows begin at around 1 PM, and is followed by the next show at 1:30 PM or so. The evening shows start at 6 PM and the last show is done at around 11:30 PM. The water, the lights, and the accompanying music of the King’s fountain all together create an intense entertaining experience that the whole family can admire and definitely enjoy.
