The Good-for-Hollywood Story of Yokoi’s Cave

February 10, 2017 By //  by Sarah Cruz Leave a Comment

Yokoi’s Cave in Guam is unlike any tourist destination anywhere in the world. It is just a tiny hole in the ground. It is not even a real cave. What’s amazing about this site, however, is not its appearance, but the extraordinary story behind it.

The Cave of Shoichi Yokoi, Last Japanese Soldier on Guam

In 1941, right after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Japanese troops attacked Guam. The tiny island-nation tried to fight back but after two days of strafing, Guam’s governor finally surrendered the US territory.

Historic Plaza de Espana

February 9, 2017 By //  by Sarah Cruz Leave a Comment

The Spaniards came in 1521 and stayed until the Americans shooed them away in 1898. That was a very long time, 300 years, and that was sure to leave an indelible mark in the history of Guam and the hearts of its people. One of the staunch reminders of the Spanish Crown is the Plaza de Espana, a remnant of the old Governor’s Palace that used to stand boldly in central Agana (now, Hagatña, the capital city).

Fun Times at Talofofo Falls and Talofofo Bay Beach Park

February 8, 2017 By //  by Sarah Cruz Leave a Comment

The island of Guam may be a US territory but it is nothing like the United States. It is tropical, balmy, and warm. Located in the Pacific Ocean just above the equator, this Micronesian island-nation has the most inviting beaches and waterfalls, and a good example is the Talofofo Falls and Talofofo Bay Beach Park, just one of the many sites in Guam where you can enjoy all the fun water activities in one day. In fact, the entire island is only 48 km long and 6-19 km wide, so you can walk from end to end in just 8 hours if you wish.

February 7, 2017 By //  by Sarah Cruz Leave a Comment

All over the world, people know the tiny island of Guam as a US territory with a US military base. However, those who have been to Guam know that it is more than that. This US territory is also an island paradise that can rival the best Asian island-resorts such as Phuket, Bali and Boracay. And the most popular white sand beaches in Guam are located in Ritidian Point.
