Nestled along the Eastern side of the Gulf of Thailand, the Hua Hin and the Cha-Am districts of the Prachuap Khiri Khan Province of Thailand are known to have the best and the driest weather in the country. The weather in Hua Hin/Cha-Am, often packaged together as famous beach destinations a few hours away from Bangkok, is divided into three major seasons: the dry season, the hot and the wet season.

Cozy weather in Hua Hin/Cha-am

Although everyone agrees that, Thailand being a tropical country, the best time to visit is when the weather is comfortably cool, there is a widely varying opinion on what months that cool weather falls on, and whether the rainy season is actually a good alternative time to visit or not.

The temperature in Hua Hin and Cha-Am is virtually consistent throughout the year, with a high of 29.9 degree Celsius during the months of April through May, and a low of 25.6 degree Celsius record in January. The amount of rainfall however fluctuates greatly. Some year the rainy season sees short rain showers during the day and plenty of sunshine in between, while some other years, the rainfall is heavy and lasts for hours on end and the sun comes out only in between weeks of continued rain.

So, while others would tell you the rainy or the wet season is a good as time as any to visit Hua Hin and Cha-Am because the rains are short and the temperature is cooler, the fact is that the weather in Hua Hin and Cha-Am can be very erratic and the months marking its seasons are only approximate.

The best months to visit, when it’s most unlikely to rain and the weather is cool, are from December to January. Still, you can always plan your vacation around November through March, when the weather is typically cool and dry. Otherwise, see short descriptions of the three seasons below with their approximate months and decide for yourself whether you’re going in the cool dry months or the cool wet months. Take note that the cool dry months are peak season in Hua Hin and Cha-Am and thus prices can balloon significantly.

Cool Dry Season (November to February). The average temperature is 25 – 26 degree Celsius during the day and can go down to 18- 20 degree Celsius in the night.

Hot Dry Season (March to June). There’s a high humidity and unbearably high temperature during the months of March through June. The average temperature is 28-33 degree Celsius in the day and 24-25 degree Celsius in the night. Sometimes the temperature can go as high as 34 degree Celsius, and the nights can get unpleasantly sticky. However, the monsoon rains sometimes come in as early as May and the rain and the wind relieve the scorching heat of the day.

Wet Season (July to October). The weather in Hua Hin/Cha-Am in rainy season has an average high of 28 – 32 degree Celsius in the day and an average low of 22-25 degree Celsius at night. Sometimes the rainy season may extend till November, so be prepared to see some rains if you decide to go in November.
