Most Filipinos know Puerto Galera as a top tourist destination in the country. Some have heard that it is slowly becoming a strong competition to Boracay, the country’s top beach and one of the most popular beaches around the word. And some are aware that a number of foreign and local tourists visit Puerto Galera for its white sand beaches, especially White Beach. Not many Filipinos know, however, that there are more than ten alluring beaches in Puerto Galera and one of the prime beaches is in fact the smallest of them all, the Small La Laguna Beach.
This beach with a funny name is popular primarily for its white sand. Guests are treated to a relaxing stay and peaceful swims, in contrast with the more energy-fraught visits to popular White Beach and the nearby Sabang Beach. White Beach is the flagship beach but it is often too crowded and too busy. On the other hand, Sabang Beach could easily be the second for the title but it is better known for its loud go-go bars, discos and nightclubs that stay up partying until morning the next day. Small La Laguna is just beside Sabang (and Big La Laguna at the other side), and actually provides contrasting peace and quiet compared to its larger neighbours.
The tranquility is emphasized by this small beach’s cove-shaped surrounding that is fringed with palm trees. A white-sandy beach plus lush greenery and crystal blue sea equals tropical paradise already, but it can still get better. This tranquil beach is also popular for snorkeling. It offers beautiful coral reefs and a variety of colorful fishes. Guests could unknowingly spend hours and hours gazing reverently at the beautiful marine life of Small La Laguna without even realizing how long they have spent just appreciating the treasures underwater.
And then there are the amenities. Tourists may dine and drink at the Point Bar while enjoying a magnificent view of the beach. The Point Bar is an elevated restaurant that lies between Small La Laguna and Big La Laguna Beach. If you wish to go international, the Portfolio Restaurant and El Galleon Restaurant serve European, American, Mexican, Asian, and, of course, Filipino dishes. There are also a number of convenient stores near the beach that sell all sorts of stuff, such as sunglasses, diving gears, “Puerto Galera” shirts, flip-flops, and souvenirs, to name a few. Guests are practically provided with everything they need.
Finally and probably the best reason to prompt tourists to opt for this beach instead of the larger ones, Small La Laguna is perfect for spending quality time with a loved one. There are no tedious activities here, since it is a small beach. A walk from end to end is just about 5 minutes, but the memories you make might last for all eternity.
Small La Laguna Beach is easy to reach because getting to Puerto Galera itself is not that difficult. From the capital city of Manila, take a bus going to Batangas Pier, and from Batangas Pier, you can catch a ferry boat that docks at Small La Laguna Beach. And just in case you missed the ferry or mistakenly took another one, chances are you are going to Sabang Beach, a more popular docking area. Small La Laguna is just a short walk away. And just in case your ferry docked elsewhere in Puerto Galera, tricycle drivers know where Small La Laguna is, so you need not worry.
