From being an area filled with peach trees in Qing dynasty, Taoyuan County has transformed into one of the most important industrial region as well as a major gateway in Taiwan. Taoyuan City alone houses the HTC Corporation, Coca-cola museum, Atotech and Wacoal Taiwan while in Dayuan town dwells China Airline, known as CAL Park, within the grounds of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Evergreen Air Cargo Services Corporation, Evergreen Aviation Technologies Corp. and other subsidiaries of Evergreen Group, are headquartered in Dayuan too. With all these major industries and production companies, it can be guessed already that one of the best things to do to enjoy your vacation is shopping in Taoyuan. Like other cities in Taiwan, Taoyuan has its fair share of large shopping malls, commercial districts and night markets.

Metro Walk Shopping Center

As the first large-scale shopping center in Taiwan and by far the largest in Taoyuan, Taimall is the most popular recreational place in the county, covering an area of more than 540,000 square feet. Inside the mall are numerous fashion boutiques selling international and domestic brands, a fitness center and an amusement park. It also brags an entertainment center, countless restaurants and cafes offering international cuisines and a sports stadium. This shopping center is a one-stop shop for practically everything you need. Taimall is located at No.112, Sec. 1, Nankan Rd., Lujhu Township, Taoyuan County.

Another shopping center close to the Museum of the Action Electronics Company is the Metrowalk Shopping Center. Located in Zhongli town, some premiere brands inside the mall include Eslite books, Carrefour and many more stores as well as a movie theater. To access Metrowalk, exit Neili interchange and drive heading to Dayuan around 2 to 3 kilometers. There is also a complimentary shuttle service in front of Changhwa Bank at Jhongjheng Road in Zhongli City.

If you want an al fresco type of shopping experience in Taoyuan, you can visit Zhongzheng Road Commercial District opposite the train station in between Zhongshan Road and Jingfu Temple. Various items can be seen within the stretch of Zhongzheng Road including garments, fashion, jewelries, plastic wares, etc. During the night, this place gets very crowded, making Taoyuan lively during evening.

On top of the small stores and counters that offer specialty merchandise, major department stores such as Tonlin Department Store, Far Eastern Department Store and Idee Department Store can be found here.

Bars, coffee shops and cafes selling snacks can be seen along the small lanes and narrow alleys, ideal for people who want to just lurk or ease their fatigue from shopping the entire night. Visitors in Taoyuan should not miss getting into this specific spot in town.

Also located in Zhongzheng Road is the Taoyuan Night Market. The night market forms a block that consists of Zhongzheng 1st Street, Cheng-kang 2nd Street, and Beipu Road.
