If you have not tried golfing in the most exotic and tempting island in Southeast Asia, you have not played golf at all. Golf in Bali is such a fun experience not only to the expert player, but also and more importantly to beginning golfers. If you are just learning the sport or still one of those who think that golf is boring, the beautiful island of Bali is where to go to appreciate the sport better, as it definitely takes this relaxing sport to another level.
Bali is an island in Indonesia very near the exotic island of Java. Located somewhere near the center of this sprawling Muslim country that is made up of thousands of islands, Bali is without a doubt Indonesia’s pride and primary tourist attraction. Millions of tourists from all over the world come here to swim, snorkel, scuba dive, or simply enjoy the cultural experience. The island is also a popular destination for international conferences, competitions and congresses. Compared with the other top summer destinations in Southeast Asia, particularly Phuket in Thailand and Boracay in the Philippines, Bali is smaller and therefore tourists have an easier time navigating their way from one tourist attraction to another. Some of its top beaches are strewn together and just a few meters from the town proper, tranquil lakes, majestic mountains, the ocean, wide rice fields or a golf course.
About golfing in Bali
The four world-class golf courses in the island are Nusa Dua Bali Golf and Country Club (located in the heart of the well-developed Nusa Dua resort), Nirwana Bali Golf Club (near the enigmatic Tanah Lot Temple), New Kuta Golf and Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club. Of this four, the most popular is the Nusa Dua Bali Golf and Country Club. Fortune Magazine referred to it as one of Asia’s top 5 golf courses in 1997. Designed by Robin Nelson and Rodney Wright, this 18-hole championship golf course also offers a driving range, pro shop, putting and chipping greens, an inviting restaurant and bar, and swimming pool.
The Nirwana Bali Golf Club, on the other hand, was also designed by a well-known golf figure, the former British Open champion, Greg Norman. This golf course is very near Bali’s picturesque rice paddies, tropical forests and gardens.
Meanwhile, the Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club is truly a treat for everyone. Imagine playing the leisurely sport of golf more than a thousand meters above sea level, in a wide golf course that features an extinct volcano crater, a dense forest, and clear and very peaceful lake in the valley.
The newest golfing venue in Bali is the New Kuta Golf Course located in the busy district of Kuta. Since this area is known to offer so many shops, bars and party venues to tourists, constructing a golf course here brings the sport closer to where most of the people are. The 85-hectare New Kuta Golf Course is majestically located on top of a limestone cliff with a stunning view of the Indian Ocean. It is only 20 minutes away from the Denpasar International Airport. This is truly golf in Bali at its finest.
