Gokarna is a district in Kathmandu, Nepal that is best known for the Gokarna Forest Resort, which is of course inside a rich and lush forest. The forest was where the royal family and the past kings of Nepal used to hunt for game. The serene forest is found just within the city limits of Kathmandu.
As the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu is where all the action happens. Most of the major tourist destinations in the country are found here. As the largest and busiest Nepali city, Kathmandu is the political, social, religious and economic center of Nepal. Thamel is the tourist district in the city, while the most important tourist spot is the Kathmandu Durbar Square, which is a wide complex that houses more than 50 ancient temples, palaces, shrines, stupas and streets. Nepal is known for these centuries-old religious structures and for its rich Eastern culture and religions. Nepal is a South Asian nation that is bound by two major countries: India and China. Nepali culture is very similar to the Indian culture.
The Nepalese are religious people and ardent followers of either the Buddhist or Hindu faith. The leading kind of Nepali tourism involves religious pilgrimages that happen throughout the year. These are often attended by devotees from India. In fact, many shrines and temples in Kathmandu were established and served for centuries exclusively by priests from South India. There are also a number of temples that are inaccessible to non-Buddhist or non-Hindu Westerners in order to guarantee the serenity and reverence within the temples.
People visit Gokarna for the relaxation that it offered by the town’s leading forest resort located within the serene and cool forest. Near the resort are beautiful lodges and sanctuaries that represent iconic 19th-century architecture. There are several forest view cottage rooms and accommodation facilities alongside the restored Hunter’s Lodge that used to be owned by the monarch. These relaxing facilities are strategically located amidst tall trees that provide their cool inviting shade.
With such relaxing greenery, this area is perfect for a game of golf. It is within this almost secluded place that is accessible only through a long, winding climb where one can see the most picturesque golf course in the world. There is none like the Gokarna Golf Resort because nowhere else in the world can one view the stunning snow-capped mountains of the Himalayas while swinging. The 470-acre golf course makes use of the area’s centuries-old forest reserve. The experience is even made more memorable whenever a deer or monkey passes by to catch a glimpse of the game at hand. Designed by the well-known David Kidd, this 72-par course is covered by Bent Grass Greens, the only golf course in South Asia that has such covering. This is the only truly internationally recognized golf course in all of Nepal. A spa and a beautiful indoor swimming pool await the tired golfers.
People from all over Asia and the world come to Kathmandu primarily to tee off and to enjoy the bounty and beauty of Gokarna. There is also a temple, hospital, and medical college nearby.
