You may also reach Nepal by flying in from Dubai via Emirates or Fly Dubai, from Doha via Qatar Airways, UAE via Air Arabia, and from Abu Dhabi via Ethihad. Most travelers from Europe without access to direct flights to Kathmandu can take any of these flights. Finally, you can fly in from Delhi via Jet Airways. At this time, Nepal Airlines does not process online bookings yet. Bookings can be done through travel agencies only.
Before your travel, you should know a few things about visas. If you are coming from an SAARC country or if you are an Indian citizen, then you don’t have to pay for a visa. If you are coming from Nigeria, Afghanistan, Somalia, Cameroon, Israel, Iraq, Swaziland, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, and Ghana, then you need to secure a visa before getting to Nepal. And if you are coming from other countries, you can get a tourist visa upon arriving in Nepal. A 15-day visa costs $25, a 30-day visa costs $40, and a 90-day visa costs $100. The maximum number of days allowed for tourists is 150 days. These fees can be paid in US dollars, Nepali rupees, or Indian rupees. Remember to bring a passport photo for your visa.
There are different ways of getting to Nepal by land if you are coming from India. You can drive a car or ride your motorcycle to cross the border. There are a lot of cars and motorbikes for rent. Many people from India go to Nepal in their motorbikes. The highways are good and comfortable for driving. The recommended route for people on motorbikes is through the Banbasa–Mahendranagar highway.
You can also enter Nepal by bus. There are five entry points for tourists traveling by bus from India: Raxaul–Birganj, Banbassa–Mahendrenagar, Bahraich–Nepalganj, Siliguri–Kakarbhitta, and Sunauli–Bhairawa. Passenger trains also travel from Raxaul, India to Sirsiya, Nepal, but at the moment only Indian nationals are allowed to go through this entry point.
