The Incheon International Airport is already one good reason why many see the city as a major transportation hub of South Korea. Add the fact that the city is the third most populous city of South Korea only after Seoul and Busan. It then comes as no surprise that a lot of travelers head to the city. Luckily, getting to Incheon is not a problem.
Incheon is located at 37°29’N 126°38’E. As mentioned, getting to Incheon by air is the easiest way to get to the metropolitan city with South Korea’s main gateway, Incheon International Airport, which is found on Yeongjong Island. Korean Air and Asian Airlines provide daily flights to and from Incheon on both international and domestic routes. But if the Incheon Airport is on an island, where is Incheon? Further transportation is then needed to get to the city center.
Considering that most tourists traveling to Korea touch down at the Incheon International Airport, how to get to Incheon is the most common question being asked. You can take the AREX train or Airport Express that connects the airport to Seoul Station by going through the Gimpo International Airport. This high speed service stops only at the airport and Seoul, making the trip only about 45 minutes. However, other passengers have the option to take the all-station service, which takes about 53 minutes to get from the airport to the capital city. Using the all-station route, you can then connect to the Incheon main subway line.
Another way to get to the city from the airport is to take the bus line or a taxi. Buses may not be a good way to travel, especially for non-Koreans as most signages are written in the Korean language. On the other hand, there are many comfortable taxis that can be hired to take you to the Incheon city center. Cabs are a great way of getting to Incheon by land as many Korean drivers are hospitable and can speak some English. Know though that riding a cab coming from the airport will mean bargaining for the price as the airport is quite far from the city center. Fixed prices will then depend on your destination.
Incheon is a major sea port of South Korea, which makes getting to Incheon by sea possible. The Incheon sea port is the second largest port in the country that comes only after the Busan sea port. Ferry services are available to take travelers from the mainland to offshore islands and several other lakes around the country.
Coming from the capital city of Seoul, taking the Kyeong-in Line which is also called the Metropolitan line 1 is the fastest way to get to Incheon. To make the trip even faster, there are express trains that skip minor stops such as Dong-incheon and Yongstan stations. Using the express method can then get you to Incheon 30 minutes faster than the regular way.
Incheon can easily be reached by almost any form of transportation as it is very well connected by roads, railways, seas and its famous international airport. Getting to Incheon is then never a problem with the many options there are. Although the city is known to be the main gateway of Korea, more and more people travel to Incheon to appreciate what this exciting metropolitan city really has to offer.
