Located in Wen-shin Forest Park Taichung, Fulfillment Amphitheater is a specially designed outdoor amphitheater that can accommodate 10,000 seats. This large-scale amphitheater is a major venue to several stately events and festivals in Taichung and even in Taiwan.
In 2001, when Jason Hu led the city of Taichung, one of his insightful perspectives was to express the city’s distinct competence and characteristics through unique cultural developments. To attain this vision, he planned the construction of an outdoor amphitheater inside the park, combining both culture and greenery. It was anticipated that in this project, Taichung City would achieve international standing of economic and cultural significance.
The project proposal materialized in August 2006 after a series of negotiations among numerous parties. In 2008, the amphitheater roof construction started. Included in the project was the development of lush garden landscape areas with multi-purpose sections. Mayor Jason Hu referred the park as Wen-shin Forest Park, supervised by the Taichung City Government Department of Construction. On the other hand, the amphitheater was named as ‘Fulfillment’ and is now managed by Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau.
The stage of Fulfillment Amphitheater is an open performance venue that measures 40 by 51 meters wide. Its length measures 18 meters, covered with a modern-designed roof that covers 9.5 meters in height and 11.5 meters in width. The backstage area covers 363.64 square meters, built with three concrete levels. The entire facility has an area of about 816 square meters, with 6,036 general seats, 20 seats for differently-abled audiences, evenly distributed in three floors. Seats are arranged in a curved pattern, enabling the audiences to clearly view every performance. Outdoor recreation activity spaces such as bicycle lanes have also been thoroughly incorporated around the amphitheater. Besides the general seats, spectators can still sit down under the lush grass areas surrounding the amphitheater. This means that the total number of persons the amphitheater can accommodate may reach over 15,000 persons.
Since August 2006, even before the amphitheater roof was not yet constructed, the wide array of cultural and artistic events have taken place there. This open space has not only offered a venue for excellent cultural activities and other recreations in Taichung, it also helped in promoting public participation in various culture and arts events. Indeed, as the City of Culture of Taiwan, the Fulfillment Amphitheater is a successful development of the city’s cultural drive.
In general, the entire area of Fulfillment Amphitheater is nearly 8.86 hectares. Situated in Nantun District, it is inside the area of 5th and 7th redevelopment zones and can easily be accessed through Wenxin Road, Dadun 7th Street, Xiangshang Road and Huiwen Road, which is no more than 15 minutes away from Taichung HSR Station. Some of the nearest places of interest and landmarks include the China Telecom Building, Huiwen Flower Market, Daxin Elementary School and a huge number of exotic restaurants, trendy cafes and more, which are easy walking distance from the Amphitheater. The convenient transport network and easy access are no doubt made the Wenshin Park neighborhood a top spot when getting around Taichung.
