With so many sights to see in Ko Samui, it can be hard to choose which ones to visit. But no matter how long you plan to stay on the island, one of the things you must never pass up is a visit to the Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo where you can experience wildlife in proximity.
The aquarium and tiger zoo are both part of the Samui Orchid Resort, but you can go to see them for a fee even if you are not checked in at the resort. The Samui Orchid Resort is found on the southeastern side of the island, specifically on Ban Harn Beach. It is 30 minutes away from Chaweng Beach and a mere 15 minutes away from Lamai Beach. The resort lies on the beach. It has three huge swimming pools. Accommodations include rooms in low-rise buildings and bungalows.
Having been in operation for many years, the Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo boasts of a large aquarium that holds various kinds of marine animals such as sea turtles, sharks, and many different kinds of fish. The inside of the aquarium has corals and rocks incorporated in the design to simulate an underwater ocean environment, in order to give the marine animals a more natural habitat. If you want to see the beautiful marine life of Ko Samui but do not want to attempt snorkeling or diving in the water, going to the aquarium is the next best thing. You get to see the sea creatures without having to get in the water. You can even feed some fish.
Aside from the aquarium, there is of course the tiger zoo where you can see exotic tigers. The tigers are caged to ensure that both they and the people are kept safe and away from harm. You can have your picture taken with one of the tigers. The tigers are trained so they’re quite safe. The zoo operators will also give you instructions on how to behave near the tiger so there’s no need to worry.
The Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo runs tiger shows three times a day. The performance showcases amazing tricks done by the tigers. The show is somewhat like an old-fashioned circus-style program where the tigers are made to jump through rings and do other stunts. Some people who do not approve of such kinds of animal performance may not appreciate the tiger show. If you’re one of these people, then don’t expect to be wowed or amazed by it. You may not like what you see.
Aside from this, the Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo also has a bird show where birds get to display different antics. Otters also put up a performance for the audience. They are a true crowd favorite and they never fail to entertain those who are watching. All in all, the aquarium and tiger zoo is a trip worth going to. Having been operating for many years, the facility is continuously improving, and the operators take into consideration the suggestions and recommendations of their visitors.
