The diving spots in Nha Trang are considered the most impressive locations for diving in Vietnam. With plenty of areas still unspoiled by many diving operators, divers can explore the richness of marine and aquatic life in Central Vietnam. Diving in Nha Trang is one popular water activity that beach-lovers should not miss. On top of Nha Trang’s prestigious beaches, divers can also lounge in one of the secluded islands.
Nha Trang is popular for its low-cost diving with dozens of dive shops in city centre that makes the competition even stiffer. Due to this competition, visitors can expect great value when booking for snorkeling and diving day trips. Just off-shore Nha Trang are a series of islands that provide excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities. If you want certification training, the beach town also offers the best value, perhaps in the world, for as low as $250 complete with PADI open-water courses and full equipment rental. A couple of dive boats, equipment rental and lunch are also offered for $45, a great value.
Due to underwater constructions, plenty of sediments are being stirred up in certain parts of the area, which causes reduced visibility on dive sites. The Nha Trang coast is also heavily fished so fish life is limited. To make the most of your diving experience in Nha Trang, there are plenty of dive shops with certified dive masters to guide you around some ideal spots in the bay. Although PADI courses and diving in Nha Trang is year-round, it can be a bit windy during October to December and the boat ride can be rough.
Some of the top dive sites in Nha Trang are Moray Beach, Madonna Rock, Electric Nose and Whale Island. Moray Beach is an incredible dive site with over 350 species of corals you can explore. The beach is suitable for training in shallow water or when searching for rare critters like pipefish, seamoths and nudibranches. Its maximum depth is about 20 meters. Madonna Rock, on the other hand, is a fish-filled site with excellent muck diving at 25 – 30 meters and a favorite spot of yellow-tail barracudas. Electric Nose is perhaps the best dive site in Nha Trang with a depth of 40 – 50 meters. This site is great for expert divers, what with the spectacular underwater topography and plenty of schooling fish. The Whale Island is another popular site, which is great for both experienced and inexperienced divers.
Nha Trang is deemed the scuba diving capital of Vietnam. In terms of dive locations, majority of these spots take 15 minutes to 1-hour of travel time depending on the boat type you use. Speedboats are the most common transportation, which can take divers less than 20 minutes from one site to the next. The Hun Mun Marine Park, the most frequently visited spot, is one of the five top islands off the cost in Nha Trang Bay and supposed to be Vietnam’s flagship marine park. Although certainly established, Nha Trang isn’t controlled or regulated as it should be, as such divers must exercise caution when selecting a dive operator. Nonetheless, scuba diving in Nha Trang is suited for all levels of scuba divers, even for those first-timers.
