Besides the beautiful white sand beaches, the shopping spots and different ancient religious temples, Nha Trang is also famous for its interesting nature sites and one of these is the Ba Ho Waterfalls. Situated about 20 kilometers north of Nha Trang and three kilometers from Phu Huu Village, the famous waterfalls consist of a string of three waterfalls beneath a clear, refreshing pool surrounded by thick and dense forest. The scenery is filled with serenity and stillness as you feel immersed in an enchanting place with the numerous butterflies and soothing sound of nature. Get the chance to communicate to nature, breath the freshest air and leave feeling relaxed.
Locally known as Suoi Ba Ho, which means “three pools stream”, the falls’ name refers to the water holes or ponds under the three falls. Flowing fast, the cascade finds its way down a 100-meter granite face, through the lakes and creating a number of water basins, which are great for swimming.
The road to Ba Ho Waterfall can be a bit dodgy, especially with all the twisted soil paths. A lot of tourists choose to visit the nature spot by hiring a motorcycle from Nha Trang. The road is fine and it is quite a scenic ride, so your eyes won’t be bored during your journey. It usually takes a good one-hour trip from Nha Trang to go to Ba Ho using a motorbike. If you plan to go without a guide, it is recommended to go with someone since flat tire incidents commonly happen. Starting from the turnoff, it takes a straight path to follow the river: several amenities along the road are available where you can buy food for lunch, cold beers or soft drinks. It is best to bring your own food and drinks for getting to Ba Ho.
Searching the falls can be a bit tricky as the only location marks are a couple of crumbling stone pillars. Turn right after you pass the village and follow the track to the parking area. Well-shaded by thick trees, the simple car park is located alongside a moving stream. Entrance fee there is 20 000 VND but the destination itself is still a ways upstream. After getting to the car park, you’ll have to walk approximately 3 kilometers, passing several huge boulders, jumping from rock to rock until you reach the first lake or fall. Be sure to wear dependable shoes. The water is pleasantly clear, ideal for a rejuvenating dip. Starting from the first pool, get up and take the steep track passing verdant forest to the next pool and the third.
Under the glistening water, tourists can jump from huge rocks down to the cool water. For adventurous people, swimming in the waters isn’t enough. Using a stick and slow careful trek up to the rugged path heading to the peak, tourists can have a beautiful panorama of the three lakes.
There are several organized day tours, which usually offer a guided trip to sites to the north of Nha Trang including Ba Ho Waterfalls, Monkey Island and Doc Let Beach. Besides swimming, the place is also ideal for picnic trips and fishing.
