Phuket

Phuket without Its Beaches

Good things do come from bad things, and a clear example of this is Phuket’s tourism after the Asian Tsunami in 2004. Before the natural disaster, Phuket was a leading holiday destination in Thailand; after the devastation, it rebuilt itself into an even more attractive paradise on earth. Today, Phuket is Thailand’s prime beach resort destination, as it is the country’s largest island.

Phuket, however, is not just about its pristine beaches. (The island is popular for having more than 15 amazing beaches that sit near each other.) Below is a closer look at what this island destination really has to offer.

The calm waters and amazing blue sky serve as a beautiful backdrop to the island’s many Buddhist temples. The Thai people are a people of faith, which is why temples serve an import role in their lives. Phuket is home to majestic temples, some over 500 years old: the most popular of them is Wat Chalong. Each temple demonstrates elaborate architecture and designs that speak loudly about Buddhist traditions.

The beaches also create the perfect atmosphere to dine. There are so many restaurants, cafés, food stalls and food places to choose from, serving freshly caught fishes, aromatic spices, fresh vegetables and spicy local dishes. Thai cuisine is one of the best in the world; where else to best sample them than in Phuket?

Phuket is also about the sunset. Tourists come just to see and capture sunsets, and experience the romance that they bring. People from all over the world come here to get married and enjoy the best honeymoon ever.

And lastly, after the sun has finally rested, Phuket turns on the party. Hordes of expats and international tourists thrive during Phuket nightlife, especially at Patong Beach on the west coast. Thailand is known as a night-party-lover’s paradise, and Phuket will definitely not disappoint. Patong is actually considered one of the party capitals of Asia.

Things You Need to Know about Thalang National Museum

July 13, 2014 By //  by Sarah Cruz Leave a Comment

The Thalang National Museum is the official museum of the island-province of Phuket. The museum also goes by the name of Thalang National Museum because it is located in the town of Thalang, which plays an important role in Thailand’s history. In the 18th Century, when Burma (Myanmar) attempted to invade Thailand through the island of Phuket, the invaders were tricked by the women of Phuket not to enter Phuket Town. Two heroic sisters, Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Soontorn, led hundreds of women in Phuket to disguise as soldiers and marched around the town. The Burmese thought they were reinforcements from Bangkok and so retreated. They were then apprehended by the Thai Army in Thalang, Phuket. The event is known as the Thalang War. The national museum was named in honor of this important event in history.

The museum has two buildings and together they showcase prehistoric artifacts that were unearthed along the Andaman seashore; artifacts showing prehistoric relations with India, which includes a large statue of Vishnu, a replica of stupa, Buddhist beads, and so on; prehistoric tools, household items, and other artifacts that show how the ancient residents of Phuket lived; and representations of historic events in Phuket. …
