Getting to Know Davao
What’s in Davao that keeps people coming back? Attractions in Davao are undeniably breathtaking, but what makes it even more worth a visit are its rich culture, friendly people, and good food. Just follow all the city rules and you will have a wonderful, hassle-free stay.
Davao is a highly urbanized city in Mindanao, and is the third most populous city in the Philippines. Different races tried to conquer Davao during the 18th and early 19th century, but none of them were successful with the colonization. At present, because Davao is well-developed from corner to corner, people can enjoy every single moment of their stay in the city. Getting to and around it is easy as Davao has all the means to take you to places. Banks and ATMs are scattered in the area for resource withdrawals. Hotels, shopping centers, historical sites, and even souvenir shops are everywhere for using those resources to give yourself the best time ever.
As for food, what is worth trying in Davao is the durian fruit. While its smell literally can’t please everyone, its taste tells a different story. Once tried, you’ll love it bite after bite. As popular as the durian fruit is Davao’s coconut wine or tuba. It is not as expensive as branded wines, but still has the power to knock you out. Pair up your wine with kilawin or grilled meat dishes for a more pleasurable experience. Before you chill out and try tuba, be reminded that you can only buy liquor until 1am according to the new city ordinance. A curfew to minors is also implemented.
Although Davao implements some strict policies, it remains a place for all ages. For family fun, swimming at the beach is on top of the list, though visiting sports and recreational establishments can be as good. Davao Museum and Crocodile Farm are popular places for children while bars are open every night for party goers. Kadayawan Festival brings one-of-a-kind entertainment to everyone during late August.
