To explore the beautiful gardens, majestic palaces, exquisite temples and lovely islands, a pleasant weather is very important. As such, when planning a trip to India’s City of Lakes, it is necessary to read about the weather in Udaipur before buying a plane ticket.
Located at an altitude of 598 meters above sea level, the city of Udaipur is more of a sultry type. But Udaipur is the only place in Rajasthan with moderate climate all through the year. The weather in Udaipur is best described as tropical. While it remains warm and hot all throughout the year, there are three main seasons – summer, winter and monsoon, dominating the city.
Summer in Udaipur falls in between the months of April and June, when the weather is hot and humid and most places for sightseeing will have to be done either during the morning or late afternoon. The temperature during summer rise above 99°F/37°C, and sometimes, it can reach as high as 40°C. It is sometimes described as the ‘pre-monsoon period’.
The monsoon in Udaipur plays a significant part on the overall Udaipur climate. Generally, the monsoon is likely to come until the end part of July, with persistent rainfall until September arrives. But the rainy weather is seldom excessive and typically falls towards the latter part of the day, and even at night, but also expect some dust storms.
Being located in the desert land of Rajasthan, monsoon season is often heralded by thunder and dust storms. Udaipur receives about 637 millimeters of rainfall each year. Because of this scanty amount, it makes the city more humid. Humidity reaches up to 90% during monsoon months.
The best time to visit Udaipur is during winter months – the perfect time to tour around the city, even during daytime. Many tourists arrive here in numbers between the months of September until March or early April. In January, the coldest month, the days are still sunny, bright and warm and the temperature remains well above 22°C. Mornings, early evenings and night are often nippy with minimum temperature falling around 11.6°C, particularly if the air is breezy. Visit here during Mewar Festival, every April to witness the authentic culture and charm of the city.
Humidity that prevails in monsoon season disappears at the start of winter. Udaipur observes temperate sunny days and pleasant cool nights. Temperature drops at 11.6°C in the evenings. Even though the temperature stays moderate through the year, still it is preferable to come here during winters, when the weather in Udaipur is pleasant neither humid not hot, unlike monsoons and summers.
Because of Udaipur’s somewhat desert climate, expect dust winds to blow occasionally. The lakes surrounding the city regulate the weather and as such, Udaipur enjoys more pleasant weather than any other Rajasthan city.
The weather in Udaipur is a welcome respite from the barren desert condition that is prevalent in Rajasthan. Its prominent lakes, the Fateh Sagar Lake and Pichola Lake, play an important role in making the temperature pleasant. Both tourists and locals enjoy a tropical weather here, making this place more favored than other cities in the state.
