Water sports in Udaipur seem like a farfetched concept to imagine, but the presence of vast and stunning lakes of this city made such enjoyable activity live and happening. Boating and swimming are very common here. Throughout the year, many kinds of water sports are being offered, with facilities in boating, swimming, jet skiing and many more. Currently, boating is a usual feature, provided by trained staff of Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC).
Udaipur is not all about palaces, monuments and deserts. It also has plenty to offer to boating enthusiasts. The RTDC has presently taken measures to promote boating and other water sports in the lakes of Udaipur as well as the rest of Rajasthan state – be it manmade or natural.

Located only 50 kilometers south from Udaipur city, Jaisamand Lake is very famous for hosting all kinds of water sports. Recognized as the second biggest artificial lake in Asia, it covers an area of 90 sq. km. This is perhaps the best equipped destination for water sports in Udaipur. The lake’s facilities include different types of boats for rent, from the slow-paced boat to the more thrilling motor boats. Besides enjoying all sorts of water sports, this is also a popular angling site as well as a perfect spot for picnic and outing.
At present, the only water activity that is regularly featured in the lakes of Udaipur City is boating. However, there are still a few recreational agencies that offer equipments, training and demonstration for various types of water sports like towable banana, wakeboard surfing, skiing, kites surfing, parasailing and other activities. You may ask your travel desk agency or your hotel for information regarding water sports agencies in the city.
Recently, a 7-seater jet boat has been introduced in the waters of Fateh Sagar Lake to encourage water sports in Udaipur. According to M.M Travels (the company that was given the contract to operate in Lake Fateh Sagar), this boat reaches a max speed of up to 100 to 200 kmph. To experience the livid water adventure, a 3-minute trip cost 200 rupees and for foreign tourists, the cost will be double (i.e. 400 rupees for a three-minute trip).
In addition, the Kayaking and Canoeing Association of Rajasthan will organize a training camp for kayaking and canoeing at Fateh Sagar this coming July. Such activity, which aims to train interested candidates, is said to be a major enhancement of the water activities in the City of Lakes. Also, a team of professionals will be coming in Udaipur and expert trainers chosen by SAI will be included in the team.
Usually, water sports in Udaipur are offered during monsoon season and winter season (November to March), when the water level in the lakes are suitable for such activities. While the prices are optimal for boating, make sure you choose the boat according to your need and choice.
