Perhaps the most well-known place in Taoyuan for biking is the Xinwu Green Tunnel. This is a popular escape located in the beachline recreational area, 2 kilometers south of Yong’an Fish Port in Xinwu Township. Based on Taoyuan County’s government plan, it is the biggest and most comprehensive bike path in Northern Taiwan starting from Yongan Fish Port in the north and finishes at Keke Port in south. Road condition is excellent with a tarmac surface and separate pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The road is well maintained with a flat and smooth surface. The path runs through the woods and beside the seashore. Its difficulty level is suitable for the entire family. Beside the scenic route are pleasant green trees and the breezy blues of the coast.
In addition, tourists don’t have to bring their own bikes as there are two-person and one-person bicycles provided on the shops close to the entrance of bicycle track. In terms of facilities, the Green Tunnel is complete with an entrance parking lot, wooden platforms, resting pavilions in elevated places, scenery observation area, recreational seats, landscape explanation facilities, indicators, signs, footpath system and majestic scenery.
Another ideal place for cycling in Taoyuan is at Shimen Reservoir. The Shimen Reservoir bicycle track is 3 kilometers long, a private bike path encircling the back pond of the reservoir. You can enter the bike track starting from Da-Ping Toll Station where you will see signs on the ground next to the tracks to the back pond. Because the bike track surrounds the lake, it impresses tourists with the scenery of green mountains and refreshing breezes. Bike rental shops are available near the reservoir. If you want to take a glimpse at the top, you can go uphill along the lakeside highway. Shimen Reservoir cycling path starts from Shimen Reservoir to Maple Paths to the Dam and Octagonal Pavilion until you reach the lake wharf cruise.
Taking a trip to Lotus Flower Ranch via bicycle is also possible. The track starts from Guanyin bike track to Ganguan Temple, then to Baisha Cape Lighthouse until you reach the Landscape of Wind Power Generation.
