The Interesting Town of Tansen

The town of Tansen is Palpa District’s administrative center. It is found in western Nepal, specifically between Pokhara and Butwal. The town has a moderate climate. Its average temperature does not go beyond 30°C and does not go lower than 0°C. The town is home to Newari communities that engage in trade, metalwork, and dhaka cloth production. The town can be reached by taking a local bus from Butwal or Pokhara.

Lumbini: The Birthplace of Buddha

Lumbini is a very popular place in Nepal because it is said to be where Buddha was born in 642 BC. In Buddhism, the place is considered to be one of the four holy places. According to religious belief, this place used to be a garden where Sal trees abound. Buddha’s mother, Maya Devi, began to feel labor pains in the garden and took hold of a low-lying branch of a Sal tree as she gave birth. Because of its importance as a holy place, Buddhists from all over the world visit the town.

Namche Bazaar: A Marketplace in the Mountains

Namche Bazaar is a popular stopover for people who are trekking or climbing Mt. Everest. It is situated 3,440 meters above sea level. The way to Namche village is not an easy one. On the contrary, trekkers and climbers need to go through a challenging trail that will increase their elevation by 800 meters. Yet, it provides a good resting place for those who are gearing up for higher altitudes in Mt. Everest.

Climbing Mount Lhotse

Mount Lhotse is the world’s fourth highest mountain, next in rank to Kanchenjunga. Unlike most mountains in Nepal, Lhotse is an independent mountain. Its highest peak is 8,516 meters above sea level. Its two other peaks, Lhotse Middle (also called Lhotse East) and Lhotse Shar, have altitudes of 8,413 meters and 8,400 meters, respectively. The mountain was first climbed by Swiss climbers Ernst Reiss and Fritz Luchsinger, scaling it through its west face.

Kanchenjunga and Its Natural Treasures

Kanchenjunga is the world’s third highest mountain. It used to hold the title of the world’s highest mountain until 1852 when it was discovered that the spot belongs to Mt. Everest. Towering 8,586 meters above sea level, this mountain in the Himalayas lies along the border between Nepal and India. It has five peaks, four of which exceed a height of 8,450 meters above sea level.
