The port city of Jounieh experiences moderate Mediterranean climate. It is located on the Mediterranean Sea, 15 km to the north of the capital city of Beirut in Lebanon. Warm summers and mild cold winters make Jounieh climate one of the most desirable ones in the world. It certainly helps boost tourism in this part of the globe. Mediterranean temperature ranges from 25°C to 35°C in summer and drops from 15°C to 10°C in winter. Weather in Jounieh is so varied and interesting that one can swim on the coast while another skis in the mountains at the same time in spring.

Before the civil war, the Middle East and Europe’s who’s who tried their luck at the Casino du Liban, which was clearly the most popular casino in the Middle East especially in the 1960s and 70s. It temporarily closed shop when the war broke, only to re-gain its international popularity in 1996.
From summer to spring, a stroll or drive along the coast is sunny, balmy and unforgettable. Jounieh presents a wonderful blend of nature, antiquity and modern urban developments. On one side you see majestic snowcapped mountains, rugged cliffs and pine-clad hills, on the other side are luxurious world-class motels, hotels and restaurants. Meanwhile, Old Jounieh near the ferry terminal in the old souq area transports tourists to what the city used to be a humble fishing port. Today, it’s bustling with commerce, tourism and entertainment.
On a clear sunny day, one gets to see the white statue of the Virgin Mary called Our Lady of Lebanon on top of the mountain in the village of Harissa, about 530 meters high and overlooking the entire city. The Lady looks over Jounieh Bay, the town below, hillside villages and majestic rocky cliffs that extend into the mighty Mediterranean.
Some ancient landmarks include the Jeita Grotto, the ancient Phoenician city of Byblos, and a row of carved reliefs along the Dog River a.k.a ‘Lycos of the Ancients’ where ancient armies and generals, such as Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, Ramses II of Egypt, and Emperor Caracalla or Rome, have marched through.
The favorable weather in Jounieh makes every trip pleasing and truly unforgettable. Tourists can’t get enough of the city’s many attractions and activities that await visitors from around the world.
