You have not truly experienced Phuket if you have not been to Phuket FantaSea, the internationally renowned cultural theme park that has even received the “Best Attraction Award” from the Tourism Authority for Thailand for 4 straight years. It is the longest running show of its kind and at this scale. Phuket FantaSea is a huge complex, 140 acres in all, that houses a 4,000-seat banquet hall, a 3,000-seat state-of-the art theater with state-of-the-art AVP equipment that could rival those in Las Vegas, and a shopping village.
At the center of the complex is the “Palace of the Elephants,” a huge theater with a seating capacity of 3,000. This replica of an ancient Thai palace is the venue for FantaSea’s spectacular Las Vegas style show with 150 cast members and 30 elephants. The show is called “Fantasy of a Kingdom” and it is about Thai mythology and culture, using high-tech special effects to accentuate the grandeur and majesty of ancient Thailand. What is so amazing about this extravagant show is that it flawlessly puts together seven different entertainment genres to create one major masterpiece in Thai culture. The genres include magical illusions, aerial performance, acrobatics, 4-dimensional visual effects, indoor pyrotechnics, elephant circus, and stunts.
The show begins at 9:00 PM and runs until 10:15 PM. Viewers should be at the Palace of the Elephants 20 minutes before the show. Admission is 1,600 baht for adults and 1,500 baht for children. If with the buffet dinner prior to the show, admission is 1,900 baht for adults and 1,700 baht for children. If paying only for the buffet dinner, it is 800 baht for adults and 600 baht for children. The ticket also entitles the guests admission to the park and the Tiger Jungle Adventure. Inside the park are free street shows, parades and nightly band performances.
Another reason to visit FantaSea is the one-of-a-kind Carnival Village, which is actually a village of stores for shopping. The design for each store follows Thailand’s rich architectural history. Visitors will experience an enchanting time shopping for silk, leather, handicrafts, ceramics, jewelry, and souvenir items, among others.
Then, after a tiring time of shopping, tourists can go to the Golden Kinnaree Buffet Restaurant for a mystical dining experience. It is very near the Carnival village. Inside the restaurant, guests will lounge like kings and royalty as mythical Kinnarees (half-woman, half-bird) wait on the visitors amidst a forest-like setting. The restaurant offers the best Thai and international dishes prepared by Thailand’s best cooks. Dinner starts at 6:30 PM.
Come to FantaSea at 6:30 PM to give you enough time going through all the attractions before having your buffet dinner and watching the show. A ticket to dinner and the show allows you to enjoy the entire park for free (except for the elephant ride), but there is no ticket just for the park alone. In other words, you cannot enjoy the park without paying for either the show or dinner.
It is definitely worth the Thai traveler’s while to experience this fantasy world in Asia’s most enchanting island-resort. Phuket FantaSea is located 9 km from Patong Beach and easily accessible from all major hotels and resorts. Major hotels expect their guests to visit FantaSea and so they have shuttle services ready and available for use.
