Situated eight kilometers from Busan city center, just at Saha-gu, between Eul-sudo, you can find the 1,100-meter long Dadaepo Beach, connected to the Nakdonggang River pouring its water into the sea. The Dadaepo coastline covers an approximate length of 0.9 kilometers with a shoreline width of 100 meters.
The beach is regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in Korea because, even if it has become famous recently, it still possesses tranquility and calmness, which most beaches nowadays lack. On top of that, you cannot find many eateries and shops near the beachfront, which means you can enjoy the sand and clear waters to the fullest without being disrupted by vendors.
Besides the clean azure waters, the beach is child-friendly, being relatively shallow in depth at around 1.5 meters deep, which means it is ideal for families, particularly for kids and those with a low level of physical fitness. Such persons can swimming freely without worries. It is also an excellent location for a stroll, chasing after small crabs or picking up colorful seashells. These activities are usually done by the locals during low tide because when the water moves back, it leaves a soft muddy bank.
People living close by take to the beach during this time in search for crabs, clams and other marine life that could not escape as the water retreats. On the southern portion of Dadaepo Beach, a number of trails make up the rocky outcrop that is filled with dense thick trees. The trails vary, from flat to rugged terrain, and most trails lead to opposite side and end at a rocky beach where numerous locals and tourists can be seen fishing from large boulders. At the other side of the rocky projection is a restricted zone owned by the military.
During summer, specifically in August, Dadaepo Beach hosts the Busan International Rock Festival. Since the festival location is at the beachfront, the broad theme for the rock festival is ‘Sea, Youth, Love’. Busan International Rock Festival is a famous rock festival, attracting at least 200,000 rock music fanatics every year from different parts of the world to watch, join and perform every year. This 3-days event is packed with musical performances from various rock artists as well as other fun-filled activities such as Hand Printing Ceremonies, Awards of Honor, etc.
The festival has been the ideal stage for new, upcoming talents to show their skills not only to the Asian audience but also to the rest of the world. Currently, Dadaepo Beach has launched the ‘Dadaepo Sunset Fountain of Dreams’, a huge fountain located in front of the beach, which measures 60 meters diameter. The water reaches 55 meters high coming from about 1046 water nozzles and is illuminated with 511 little lights. This fountain operated three times per day, from Monday to Friday and five times during Saturday and Sunday.
Dadaepo Beach is complete with various facilities including a parking space, shower booths, restroom, cafeteria, snack bar and gymnasium. To access this beautiful beach, you can ride Bus No. 2, 98 going to Dadaepo or Bus No. 11 to Nampo-dong, at the bus stop opposite Busan train station. If you take the subway, get off at Goejeong Station or Sinpyeong Station at Line 1 and transfer to Bus No. 2, 11, 96 or 98 to Dadaepo.
