If you think Saudi Arabia is just a boring country of hot, lifeless deserts, then you are making a big mistake. The city of Al Khobar, located at the Eastern Province of the kingdom, is also a place of scenic views and beautiful beaches. Just five kilometres away from the city center, you can find one of its captivating summer spots, the Al Azizia Beach.
The Al Azizia Beach is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Al Khobar and the entire Saudi Arabia. A lot of people come to the place not only during the summer months, but all year round. Although exposing too much skin is against the conservative beliefs of the country, Muslims as well as non-Muslims still find the experience at the beach fun and memorable.
Needless to say, the beach became a favourite attraction of many because of its overall warm atmosphere. It has comfortably warm, crystal-clear water and fine sand. The gentle waves of the sea make it easy eve for kids to swim and play on the water. Some activities the place is known for are diving, swimming, and snorkelling.
Bringing of foods is very much allowed at the beach. In fact, shaded picnic spots with tables and chairs are located all throughout the beach. There are also barbecue grills for guests who want to prepare food on their own, while some small food establishments are just around the area for those who want to eat readily available snacks.
It is already common for women in the city to wear the abbaya. And this is no exception even when at the beach. When the place is too crowded, women prefer to swim with the abbaya on, while children can wear shorts. However, in some instances, like when the beach is not much crowded, women may take off their abbaya as long as they wear modest pair of shorts and see to it that their clothes don’t expose too much skin.
The best times to visit the Al Azizia Beach are during the summer months. But since June, July, and August (known as the 90 days of hell) can be too hot for swimming and may burn the skin, you may want to just move your schedule to another date. You can also enjoy the beautiful beach more if you go during workdays as the place is not that crowded.
There are a number of accommodations near the Al Azizia Beach. If you wish to spend the night on classy, expensive hotels, the Le Meridien Al Khobar on Corniche Boulevard, Park In by Radison Al Khobar on King Faisal Abdulaziz Road, and the InterContinental Al Khobar on Bin Bassam Al Andalusi Street are only some of the best places to choose from. However, if you are on a budget travel and are looking for a cheap place to stay, some B&Bs are also near the area such as the Rest Inn Khobar, Al Bustan Bed & Breakfast, and Logina 1 Hotel Suites.
