Although originally a Yemenite festival, Temaniada became an Eilat tradition several years ago. This annual festival takes place every August in participation of some musical artists, mostly of Yemenite heritage. At first, this event was celebrated in Shulamit Gardens Hotel, but over the years, it transferred on the lawns of Sport Hotel. Temaniada has become popular across Israel. Yemenite and European tourists visit Eilat during this time, all loving to undulate to the distinct oriental sound.
This music festival, which has established a name across the world, draws thousands of visitors every year, thanks to the famous performers who are taking part in it. Celebrated every August, the Eilat International Red Sea Jazz Festival was the pioneer of the many events now gaining momentum in the city.
The musicians who participate in the Jazz Festival come from various musical genres – jazz-rock, fusion, Be-pop, rhythm and blues etc. Some of the musical ensembles are unique, new groups formed to perform in the festival. During the festival, there are street performers stationed in the central location across the city. One of the famous performances known as ‘Jazz Outside’ takes place in shopping centers and beaches, welcoming new and budding artists for whom this could well be their first chance to prove their talent and enjoy an audience. Jazz Outside performances are open to the public and are held all throughout the day.
A winter version of the Red Sea Jazz Festival, the Winter Jazz Festival takes place every January at Eilat Port. It features Israeli and other international jazz ensembles and artists.
Other major culture and festivals in Eilat include Eilat Israman (Long-Distance Triathlon) every January, the Eilat Pride Festival for the LGBT community and the Eilat Red Sea World of Underwater Images Festival every November.
