Located near the city of Khobar in Saudi Arabia, Half Moon Bay is known for its semi-lunar shaped beach and fun water activities like Groupler fishing, sailing, and snorkelling. It has been a popular tourist attraction for more than 80 years because of its water depth that ranges from 15 feet to 30 feet, which can effectively accommodate various water activities from simple swimming to diving. The beach is located 500 km west of Highway 1 at Kelley Avenue. You can get there by riding a taxi or driving a rented car.
The Half Moon Bay is originally known as Doha Dhalum in 1900. Arab traders sailing on the Persian Gulf area use the beach whenever they need to stop due to bad weather or get some fresh water from artisan wells. They also stop here to load up some salt which they trade to other countries such as India and Africa for skins. Today, the area at the center of the western shore is an ongoing housing development.
This popular tourist destination offers a multitude of recreational activities. Though Groupler fishing and sailing is what the place is known for, swimming, sunbathing, snorkelling, and diving are also popular in this place. In fact, swimming and diving lessons are offered here by some certified professionals. Picnicking is also allowed as there are a number of shaded spots with tables, chairs, and ready-to-use barbecue grills at the different sections of the beach. You can bring your own food or buy at nearby American, European, and local food establishments.
The Half Moon Bay houses a number of beautiful private beaches. One is the Saudi Aramco Beach, which only accepts Saudi Aramco staffs with grade 11+. Palm trees are abundant in this private beach and a yacht club is available. Other private beaches in the area are King Faisal University Beach, King Fahad Military City Beach, and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals Beach.
While some people are satisfied with swimming and picnicking at the beach, there are also others who prefer to see and enjoy more of the place. Amusement parks and other places of recreation you can visit when in Half Moon Bay are the Prince Mohammad Amusement Park, Half Moon Village, Palm Beach Resort, King Fahad Coastal City, and Alkhaleej Makarim Village.
If you are planning to stay longer so you can enjoy more of the beach, you can find a number of good accommodations nearby. One of the best places to stay is the Holiday Inn Resort Half Moon Bay. It is very near the place and offers guests with free breakfast, parking space, swimming pool, and many other facilities. Cheaper accommodations for people on budget travel are also available near the area.
Although the Half Moon Bay is a destination for all seasons, during the months of May, September, and October is the best time to go. The temperature during these months is not as hot and as humid as when in the months of June, July, and August.
