The Dusit Palace, also called the New Royal City, is a complex of royal residences and palaces located right in the heart of Thailand’s political center in Rattanakosin district in Bangkok. The Dusit Palace is the result of King Rama V’s visit in Europe. The King was said to be the first monarch to ever leave Thailand and visit Europe. He was inspired by the wide roads and avenues of royal residences in Europe and had envisioned the same for the canal-filled roads of his country. The resulting structure of the palace reflects a different kind of architecture with a largely European feel.
