To travellers visiting the capital of Jordan for the first time, it may not be too readily apparent what the best methods of travel in the city would be. For instance, a lot of people actually ask about getting around Amman by helicopter after seeing the city from a distance, due to them being struck by the number of hills in the city (no fewer than nineteen!). The best and most popular ways of getting around the city still involve moving around on terra firma, though. Furthermore, they would definitely cost more than a helicopter ride.
Getting around Amman on land may be done by either bus or car, and for a time, it was also possible to achieve it by using the rails. However, train transport is not reliable in the city nowadays, and some even consider it to have been effectively abolished already. Whether or not the city authorities are going to reopen and renovate the old tracks is largely an open query, so tourists had best stick to the streets.
