Yilan is a humble and small city found in the mountainous east coast of Taiwan with just about 100,000 in population. There are also a number of smaller districts and localities within Yilan that have a charm of their own. Getting around Yilan and exploring the city is then a must.
As in many of the non-metropolis areas in Taiwan, the best way to get around the city is by renting a scooter. All tourist centers found near train stations offer scooters for hire as long as you have a valid International Driver’s License. Operating scooters may seem relatively easy, but maneuvering in Yilan traffic is where the challenge lies. Although motorbikes are not for everyone, they may provide you with a lot of freedom to tour around the city, making your travel options a lot easier.
