Nantou City in Taiwan is best seen on a rented scooter and in some cases, by foot. It’s a tiny city that is full of surprises and charm. Getting around Nantou will not take long since there are not so many spectacular landmarks to see. However, Nantou’s Sun Moon Lake, Hehuan Mountain, and Chingjing plateau, among other attractions, continue to draw hundreds of foreign tourists every month. The city of Nantou has only about 100,000 residents.
Sun Moon Lake is easily the main attraction in Nantou and one of the most stunning spots in Taiwan. Tourists from all over Taiwan, mainland China and several countries around the world come to Nantou primarily for this uniquely picturesque lake. It is named “Sun Moon” because part of it resembles the sun while another area looks like a crescent moon. Its other name is Shui-sha-lian, which in English means “connecting water and sand”.
